I don’t think we shouldn’t completely move away from formula Hindi films says Vidya Balan

Actress Vidya Balan attended Jio MAMI film mela on Saturday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Vidya stated that we shouldn’t completely move away from among formula Hindi films.

Vidya Balan is always known for doing content driven films and in last few years there has been a trend in film industry that content driven films are working more than typical commercial formula Hindi films so when asked her opinion about this new phase of industry she had something unique to answer, She said, “I feel now we are making films which are universally appealing. It’s still less in numbers but it’s a good sign. Having said that, I don’t think we shouldn’t completely move away from formula Hindi films because that has been our specialty and we are known in world because of that and audience also likes to watch good formula Hindi films”

Talking about MAMI film Mela, Vidya Balan said, “I have been associated with MAMI film festival since its first year. As a college student, I used to volunteer here to present their films and as an actor also I have been attending MAMI film festival over the years now. A lot of my learning of world cinema comes from MAMI but from last 2-3 years, Anupama Chopra and Kiran Rao has done some amazing work with MAMI. It’s been well organized. They are providing differentiated content. I am really happy about this because we really needed a festival to showcase best of Indian cinema and to enjoy world cinema.”

“I remember watching lot of Iranian cinema at MAMI. The kind of storytelling and performance they have in their films which are really simplistic. They are films with very large heart so I hope I get to do more of those kind of films and I feel my upcoming film ‘Tumhari Sulu’ is one of them.

When asked her which film of her she want to showcase a MAMI, Vidya said, ‘I hope all my films does well in theatres and then in film festivals also because I am very greedy person when it comes to my work and I don’t get satisfy with only one platform”

Vidya recently appointed CBFC board member, when asked her what scares her as CBFC board member, she said, “I feel scared of answering questions from the media because somehow we manage to do work but facing media is not easy. I am enjoying my stint at CBFC. I have made it clear to them that whenever my film or film which involves my other family members will come to CBFC to get certification that time, I will discard myself from that procedure but I have been getting to learn a lot. You have different point of view when you are watching a film as board member. I think its great way to learn for me”

Talking about her Diwali celebrations, Vidya said, “I will be attending parties which are hosted by our friends from the industry and along with that I will celebrate Diwali with my family and friends.”

She also talked about filmmaker Kundan Shah’s demise, she said, “I had no clue about that. I know Kundanji. He made some wonderful films. He will definitely missed but his work is there to all of us to enjoy. May his soul rest in peace”.

Vidya next will be seen in ‘Tumhari Sulu’ along with Neha Dhupia and Manav Kaul. It is directed by Suresh Triveni.
