Kundan Shah wasn’t appreciated enough when he was alive says Manoj Bajpayee

Manoj Bajpayee who is currently gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Rukh’ in a promotional interview said, Kundan Shah wasn’t appreciated enough when he was alive.

Veteran director Kundan Shah, best known for the dark comedy "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro", died at his home early on Saturday. When Manoj was asked to express his views on the filmmaker’s work he said, “Kundan Shah was a unique director of our times. He was an amazing thinker. If you see his films like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ and ‘Kya Kehna’ these were incredible films. They didn’t just belong to romantic genres or comedy but the film talked about things beyond it. They talked about social taboos and also questioned the unhealthy practices of our society. He never made a film only for entertainment; he gave important messages from his films.

The saddest part is that he wasn’t appreciated enough when he was alive. I think it’s something that always happens in Bollywood we don’t appreciate great talent when they are alive but we say great things after they have passed away.”

Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Rukh’ is directed by debutant Atanu Mukherjee and presented by Eros International and Drishyam Films.

While talking about the debutant director and working with him Manoj said he would love to work with him again given the chance, “I have previously worked with many directors and I would like to say that Atanu Mukherjee is one of my favorite directors. The way he tells a story is very different, unique and simple. It is true that simple things are actually more complex. It is very difficult to achieve the phase when you can simply and easily communicate a story through your work which Atanu has done with his first film.”

Rukh’ is a drama that talks about Dhruv, an 18 yr old, who gets the news of his father’s death declared as a suicide. As he is unable to accept it, his search for truth leads to a series of unexpected revelations. And he discovers the shades of his father’s personality he had never seen before.

The film casts Manoj Bajpayee, Adarsh Gourav, Smita Tambe and Kumud Mishra.

The film is scheduled to release on 27th October 2017.
