When asked about his love for the sports, Farhan said, “Cricket is the unlisted religion in India and there is this feeling that if you’re not interested in cricket then there is something wrong with you. I’d played cricket while growing up in streets or buildings, now there is little space issue in Mumbai, so playing it is an issue”

“I’d always had cricket in my life, some of the best memories that I have is around cricket, watching it with my parents and their friends, celebrating when India won and getting a heartbreak when our team lost. The sports of cricket have played a huge role in connecting all of us. Culturally it is a part of who we are, and no one take that away from us” added Farhan.

The series explore the dark side of the sports, the power struggles and politics. The new season deals with doping and legalizing betting.

Farhan Akhtar has explored the sports genre with movies such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Toofan, the series explore cricket. So, we asked if he would make series on other sports as well.

He said, “To be honest, right this moment I haven’t thought about it, but I am happy about the fact that focus of our nation is not just limited to cricket anymore, a lot more sports are being highlighted, such as badminton, wrestling, boxing and more. Our government is trying to promote every sport and get kids interested in them, not just cricket. So, when the audience starts paying attention to other sports, I am sure people will start making stories of them as well. Film industry offers or make stories which society or audience is interested in, now that the focus is shifting to other sports as well, so in coming time, other sports will get stories made as well”

Meanwhile on the work front, Farhan is returning to direction with Jee Le Zaraa, starring Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
