Script writing is more tougher than acting says Tisca Chopra

Actress Tisca Chopra attended special screening of her upcoming film ‘The Hungry’ at MAMI Film Festival along with her co-stars Naseeruddin Shah, Neeraj Kabi and Sayani Gupta on Saturday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Tisca stated script-writing is tougher than acting.

These days, Tisca is busy writing script for a feature film named, ‘Delhi Wale Bhatia’ who earlier written short film named ‘Chutney’ for which, she won best actress award in short film category at Filmfare award when asked what’s her experience of writing a film script, she said, “It’s tough to write. I am enjoying it but sometimes I get into lot of trouble because when things get going then it feels great but when you are stuck somewhere then you feel, your life has stopped. Lot of my writers friends also tell me that it’s a difficult job but I am excited”

So when asked her what is more challenging, acting or writing, Tisca said, “I feel scriptwriting definitely because with writing you start with nothing. As an actor, you start with script, brief from director, you have lighting, makeup and dialogues but as writer, you start with black screen or paper and you have to go from there. From that point you can go anywhere or sometimes you might fail also”

Talking about her upcoming film, ‘The Hungry’, Tisca said, “The Hungry is already been to Toronto (TIFF) and after that it gone to London where it received rave reviews and now we are eagerly waiting to know Indian audience reaction for our film. It’s very different sort of film. It’s very dark, unusual and different than what we make in India normally so I am feeling little bit butterflies in stomach but at the same time, I am very happy because I feel few years back a film like ours wouldn’t have released but thanks to MAMI, other film festivals and growing culture of watching interesting and different kinds of movies apart from mainstream movies.”

Talking about her character in the film, Tisca said, “I play very different character. It’s not a character people have seen in the film before. It’s very glamorous but at the same time internally very powerful. You can’t anticipate what’s going in her mind when she behaves normally. Our director gave me brave that my character is like wild cat who observes everything but you can’t predict her actions”

Talking about response to her film at the international circuit, Tisca said, “It was fabulous, outstanding response in Toronto and London was even better and I hope at MAMI, it will be even better”

Recently, legendary writer Salim Khan made statement that there is lack of good script in the Hindi films, reacting to that, Tisca said, “I agree with him completely and that’ the biggest thing. There is no training and preparation for screen writing and that tradition is not there in our country to that extent. We used to make very unusual and below average films in 1990s but now things are changing. Younger filmmakers and writers are now very focused on structure of script. Writing a script is very difficult and lonely job. You cannot write a film script in one day. It takes months or sometimes years to polish it and make sure that your writing is sharp and crisp because after that you shoot your film so writing is the first layer and that has to be correct”
