Starring Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and late actor Irrfan Khan in the lead roles, helmed by Ritesh Batra, the epistolary-romance was bankrolled by DAR motion pictures, UTV Motion Pictures, Dharma Productions, Sikhya Entertainment and NFDC (India).

The film won the Critics Week Viewer’s Choice Award also known as Grand Rail d'Or. The Lunchbox was nominated for the Best Film Not in the English Language category of the British Academy Film Awards 2015.
