Netflix and Yash Raj Films Announce 'Maharaj'

The much awaited debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan finally gets a first look poster and release date. The Netflix and Yash Raj Films collaboration is titled 'Maharaj', it also stars Sharvari, Shalini Pandey and Jaideep Ahlawat.

Helmed by Siddharth Malhotra, the film is a true story of one man's unwavering resolve against the backdrop of pre-independence India. Premiering on June 14, 'Maharaj' promises to captivate audiences with its compelling narrative and stellar performances.

Set in the year 1862, 'Maharaj' transports viewers to a pivotal moment in Indian history, where the echoes of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 reverberate, and the struggle for independence simmers beneath the surface. Against this tumultuous backdrop, the film chronicles the journey of Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer whose courageous stand in a landmark legal battle leaves an indelible mark on society.

Portrayed as a pioneering advocate for women's rights and social reform, Karsandas Mulji emerges as a beacon of hope amidst the prevailing darkness. A student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and mentored by the esteemed scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, Mulji fearlessly champions causes close to his heart, challenging the norms of his time and igniting the flames of change.

The crux of the narrative unfolds with the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, a watershed moment in Indian legal history fueled by allegations of misconduct against a prominent figure. As the case gains widespread attention and scrutiny, Mulji finds himself at the forefront of a battle that transcends mere legalities, symbolizing the struggle for truth, justice, and freedom.

The film releases on 14th June 2024.
