MAMI Drops AIB And Rajat Kapoor Films in the Wake of Me Too Movement
In the wake of #MeToo Movement, the troubles for AIB and Rajat Kapoor are just starting. After facing backlashes and criticism online now MAMI has decided to drop Rajat Kapoor’s and AIB’s film for their lineup.
The Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) which organizes the annual Mumbai Film Festival, in the wake of raging #MeToo movement, has dropped Rajat Kapoor’s film Kadakh and AIB’s first film as producers, Chintu Ka Birthday, from their lineup for the upcoming festival.
This decision comes after allegations of sexual misconduct were raised against filmmaker Rajat Kapoor and members of AIB by various women online.
Film critic Anupama Chopra just shared a statement on social media. Which read, “We as an Academy (MAMI) strongly support the #MeToo Movement. In light of recent developments, we have decided to drop the following films from our lineup – AIB’s Chintu Ka Birthday and Rajat Kapoor’s Kadakh. We want to use this opportunity to open the conversation, and find solutions to harassment and sexual misconduct in the workplace. Starting with this edition of the festival, we would like to unite the community to find positive and constructive ways to deal with it”
Chintu Ka Birthday directed by Satyanshu and Devanshu Singh, was AIB’s first attempt at film production but the film has been dropped now.
