Actress Konkona Sen Sharma and filmmaker/writer Vishal Bhardwaj attended opening ceremony of the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival on Thursday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Konkona Sen Sharma and Vishal Bhardwaj hailed the landmark judgment of Allahabad High Court.

Allahabad High Court acquitted the parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar for their daughter Aarushi Talwar’s murder on Thursday.

The court said the Talwar’s could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record, thus ending the nine-year ordeal of the parents who were found guilty by a CBI court of murdering 14-year-old Aarushi.

'Talvar' presented alternative narratives of what happened on the night of May 16, 2008, when Aarushi was found murdered in her Noida home. The body of the Talwars' family help Hemraj was found several hours later.

Konkona Sen Sharma played role of Nupur Talwar in ‘Talvar’ which released in 2015, talking about the verdict Konkona said, “Its fantastic news. It’s really a shame that it took us nine years for their innocence that has been proven. Its tragedy also that we still don’t know who the killers of Hemraj and Aarushi are but I am very happy for Talwar’s”.

Vishal Bhardwaj who written script of Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Talvar’ added, “I think there is no better victory of cinema than this as it has made impact like this and that exactly what we wanted. Its amazing news and we are so happy for family and especially the parents but saddest part is that we can’t bring back their nine years in which they struggled to get justice and it’s also a biggest victory of Indian judicial system as well”

When asked does this film generated any kind of awareness among audience, Bhardwaj said, “I think because of our film, their case came to lime light at least for some period of time because earlier, things which were under surface came into public eye with our film. In the investigation, there were many aspects which were doubtful and in our film, we took neutral stance and we didn’t take anyone’s side. We showed what happened in investigation and what proceedings were carried out by both investigating agencies that was Delhi Police and CBI in the film so it in the outcome, it made things pretty clear”

'Talvar' was distributed by Junglee Pictures and produced by Vineet Jain and Vishal Bhardwaj. The film was directed by Meghna Gulzar and written by Vishal Bhardwaj.

It starred Konkona Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi as Nupur Talwar and Rajesh Talwar respectively and Irrfan Khan played role of CDI officer based on CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)
